Porter was king of the beer world early in the 19th century. The stronger “Imperial” versions were in particularly high demand in the region surrounding the Baltic Sea. Brewers in that region began to brew their own bottom-fermented versions of this British ale and continued to do so as the demand globally for Porter waned. Our Baltic Porter picks up on this tradition of fermenting with lager yeast to accentuate the complex aromas of molasses, raisin, dark chocolate and coffee derived from the roasted malts. Reminiscent of a port wine this brew demands to be savored.
